Vijaya College ever since its existence has been supportive towards women and respecting women. The Institution was started as a co-education institution to support and uplift the women by creating opportunities for gender equity. Our Institution has always kept up to the vision of our great freedom fighters like Mahatma Gandhi who held that “equal rights and respect has to be given to women”. This promise is kept up by the institution.
Women Empowerment Cell of the college was formed in the college in the year 2005by the Female faculty members who aimed at supporting the girl students and all the female staff members (teaching, non-teaching and support staff) and created the best platform to discuss the various issues related to a woman. Cell was named “DHVANI” in the year 2015 and “TAARINI” in the year 2018. It was renamed as “DHVANI” in 2019.
The institution has implemented all the statutory regulations of the government like 180 days of maternity leave, Anti – Sexual Harassment Cell, orthe Women Empowerment Cell which addresses the problems of both faculty and students. The institution has also educated, and installed the sanitary pad vending machine to help all the women of the institution during their menstrual cycle and burning machine of the used pads to maintain menstrual hygiene. The college has provided the Women’s Dormitory to encourage the rural women students to pursue their education at very nominal charges. In total, the institution has always encouraged the all-round development of women and especially in the field of education.
DHVANI- Women Empowerment Cell conducts atleast 3 -4 major events where all the women folks of the college meet togetherto discuss on programs like the women health, hygiene, career, personality development issues, etc.
BHS Higher Education Society conducts International Women’s Day every year.
Success story of the girl students is an endless list where most of them are working and rendering their services in Governmental and non- governmental Organizations and have occupied high positions and successfully discharging their duties.
Convenors like Dr. P Aswini, Prof. G Vasanthalakshmi, Dr. V Anuradha,Dr. B S Jayashree, and Prof. Sudha Sandilya, have contributed to the strengthening and furthering the activities of the Cell.
