Department of Microbiology was established in the year 2007. Initially, it was under the care of Department of Botany. Microbiology department has now grown as a full-fledged department with several state of art equipment. Student projects are conducted in – house on varied topics and generates a sense of research culture amongst the students. Industrial visits and field visits are regularly organized to give the students a first-hand experience of the contemporary developments in research and industries. The department publishes a newsletter titled “Microbiome” to encourage students to generate articles which in turn fosters the technical writing skills. Student research papers have been published in several conferences and scientific journals. Some of them have been awarded for the quality of the work executed. The department conducts in – house workshops in collaboration with Indian Institute of Technology, Kharagpur. Many ranks have been procured and many students have cleared IIT – JAM.

The department is nurtured by Dr. Madhumitha Ghosh Dastidar and Prof. K Malavika. Presently, Dr. Madhumitha Ghosh Dastidar is serving as Head of the Department.
