Prof. V T Srinivasan, one of the founding fathers of the college and an able administrator, headed the Department between 1945 and 1951. The college saw many developments during his tenure as Principal spanning more than two decades. He was instrumental in initiating the Grant-in-aid policy of the State Government and introduction of retirement benefits for aided college staff.

Other dedicated staff who were responsible for the growth of the department were Prof. T S Ramachandra, Prof. R Srinivasa Rao, Dr. Ananth K Atre, Prof. M.N.Rajalakshmi, Prof. B G Srinivasa Murthy , Prof. H K Nagaraja, Dr. R D Satish, Prof. R V Prabhakara, and Prof. G. Padma. Dr. A K Atre guided the college in the capacity of the Principal and is presently serving the BHS Higher Education Society as its Treasurer. Prof. R V Prabhakara served as Principal of BHS First Grade College after seeking voluntary retirement and also had held the posts of Joint Secretary and Vice – President of BHS Higher Education Society.

The faculty participate in designing curriculum, as resource persons for student and teacher workshops at High School, PU and degree level.
