Department of Biotechnology was established in the year 2007. Initially, it was under the care of Department of Zoology. Biotechnology department has now grown as a full-fledged department with several state of art equipment. Student projects and internships are conducted in collaboration with Sridhar Bhat’s Laboratory and Centre for Incubation, Innovation, Research and Consultancy, Jyothy Institute of Technology. In – house workshops are periodically conducted. The department is a member of Life Sciences SectorSkill Development Council (LSSSDC)

Many students progress to higher education and research in prestigious higher education and research institutions. Some of them qualify in IIT – JAM.

The department is nurtured by Dr. Gopalakrishna and Prof. Bharath.

Presently, Dr. Gopalakrishna is serving as Head of the Department.
