The college sports department works in consultation with the sports committee comprising teachers and Physical Education Director. The sports committee plans sport schedule for each academic year. The college has a sports field for different games like cricket, football and volley ball, including a special basket ball court. Indoor sports like Shuttle Badminton, Chess, Table tennis, etc. are equally encouraged.
The college has a healthy practice of giving priority to outstanding sport persons during admissions along with fee concessions. Being a prestigious institution in the city, there is a great demand for admission under sports quota and many outstanding sport persons have graduated from the college. They include such noted cricket personalities like Venkatesh Prasad, Vijay R Bharadwaj and Deepak Chougle at international level; N C Aiyappa, C. Raghu and S Sharat at the Ranji Trophy level. In addition, Seema R Ghai has represented the nation in Triathlon, while Archana Venkataram, who excelled in Tennis, received Ekalavya Award, the State’s highest award for a sports person.
The sports department of the college has been organizing inter-collegiate tournaments in Basketball, volleyball, Kho-Kho, Kabbadi and Throw ball for girls. Every year several students from the college are representing Bangalore University in various disciplines of sports. Teaching staff also take active part in sports activity, intercollegiate competitions in cricket and shuttle badminton.
The Sports department has been nurtured by (Late) Sri D R Krishna Murthy, Dr. K Rajagopalachar, Dr. M J Sundar Ram, Prof. M K Ananda Alwar, Prof. A Heramba, Prof. R D Satish and Prof. K V Chenna Keshava.
Dr. K Rajagopalachar, Retd. Principal is the recipient of the State Dasara Award for promoting Kho-Kho. He had also functioned as a member of the Kho-Kho selection team of Bangalore University and had accompanied the teams as Manager and/or coach.
Dr. M J Sundar Ram, Retd. Vice-Principal of the college is the recipient of State Dasara Award for popularizing kabaddi. He was deputed by Asian Amateur Kabaddi Federation to introduce kabaddi in Schools and Colleges in Japan and Sri Lanka. He was also the coach for Indian Ladies Kabaddi team for the 9th Asiad held at New Delhi. He is a national referee and a national coach for kabaddi and also has authoured a book on kabaddi.
Presently, Thippeswamy is the Physical Education Director.
